Julia had a very good night in ICU last night. The nursing staff has been phenomenal, and have been such a help to her. Julia continues along the road to recovery. Because she has been doing so well, the staff made the decision to remove her chest tube this morning -- not a fun process, but Julia was a trooper as usual. The nurses also removed some of the additional wiring and tubing and Julia is much freer to move than she has been!
I can't say enough good things about this hospital -- Children's Medical Center/Dallas. Natalie, a hospital child advocate/counselor came into Julia's room this morning to read a book to her and keep her engaged as the nurse practitioner removed her chest tube. Natalie also met with Taylor yesterday before he went in to see Julia to help explain what all the various wires, IVs and tubes were on her so that he wouldn't be upset.
This morning, we got to see Brandi Polder! Brandi completed a rotation at PCCA last year and now works in the ER/Pharmacy here at Children's. As it turns out, she was on rotation rounds with Julia's MDs, Dr. Forbess and Dr. Nugent, in Cardiac ICU this morning at 7:30 am! In fact, Brandi said it was the first time she had been on rounds in cardiac ICU. So how wild is that, Ms. Brandi is out in the hall in front of Julia's room with the rest of the medical team receiving a briefing about Julia. What a small world we really do live in!
We've been told that Julia will be released from Cardiac ICU sometime this afternoon and go to a regular cardiac ward/private room. Will let you know where when I know.

Julia,
The class was able to read and look at your pictures from the projector this morning that your mom has been posting on your progress. Several students were so excited, they cheered when they heard the good news of how you were doing. A few thought you would be back today, so when I went to pick them up in the gym this morning, they had made you welcome back cards thinking you would be back today! I told them to hold on to them until you feel better and can join us again. Sounds like you are being such a trooper and we look forward to your return!!
